The Kingdom of Fungi
The F-Code catalogs the aggressive proliferation of kingdom-level fungal species across the built environment. Unlike phototrophic algae, fungi are heterotrophic; they possess no photosynthetic capabilities and must actively digest organic or synthetic compounds within their immediate vicinity to survive.
Plasticizer Hydrolysis
Modern architectural elements, particularly uPVC frames and silicone weather seals, rely on complex plasticizers to maintain flexibility. Deteriogenic fungi secrete specialized extracellular esterases that hydrolyze and consume these plasticizers. As the fungus feeds, the structural seal becomes critically brittle.
The Bleach Illusion
