We applied a surfactant-blended biocide using a manual pump to control flow rates, agitating the solution into the timber with water-fed brushes. After a dwell period and rinse, the wood was left for two weeks to allow the dead organic matter to oxidize and surface as a "white fluff." This residue was removed in a secondary wash before applying the Osmo oil.

Technical Explanation The "white fluff" observed post-treatment is the necrotic residue of the mycelium network being expelled from the timber capillaries. The sodium hypochlorite oxidizes the cellular wall of the fungi, breaking it down into a surfactant-soluable by-product. The subsequent application of Osmo oil fills these now-sterile pores, restoring the wood's hydrophobic properties.
