Where a building stands largely decides what it will suffer — local geology, microclimate, tree cover, heat and pollution all shape its risks. We encode each location as a 'Z-Code' capturing those drivers, so we can predict a property's likely problems from its place on the map. It is why our advice for one town differs from the next.

Geospatial Pathology Mapping assigns each location a Z-Code — a geographic pathology zone that encodes the local drivers of decay: bedrock and substrate geology, microclimate, Urban Heat Island multiplier, canopy density and pollution load. Within COSMOS the Z-Code is the spatial key that interconnects atmospheric delivery vectors and material vulnerabilities to predict ecological outcome for a given place, and it weights the Substrate Vulnerability Index (Z-Code geographic weighting). It is how the framework knows that Olney (Z2) and Corby (Z1) face quantitatively different pathology regimes.
