A blocked gutter is a building problem, not a cosmetic one

Water that cannot leave the roof goes somewhere else. Down the wall, into the fascia, through the soffit, into the cavity, across the floor of the unit below. On a commercial building the first anybody usually knows about it is a stain on a ceiling tile or a puddle by a rack of stock.

Two very different jobs

Gutter vacuum from ground level. Standard uPVC and aluminium guttering is cleared with a high-reach vacuum on carbon poles, working from the ground. Nothing leans on your building, nobody stands on your roof, and the debris comes down into the machine rather than onto your car park. This is how the majority of commercial guttering is done and it is what the price on this page covers, up to 40ft.

Manual clearance of box and valley gutters. Large metal box gutters, valley gutters and parapet runs are a different job entirely. A vacuum head will not reach across the width of them and the debris is usually compacted. That work is cleared by hand into buckets and brought down, which takes roughly twice as long per metre, and it needs safe access onto or alongside the roof. Where that means a mobile elevating work platform, the job is surveyed and quoted rather than priced online — platform hire is a cost we do not control and we will not publish a figure we cannot hold.

What a clearance includes

• All accessible gutter runs cleared of leaf litter, silt, moss and nesting debris
• Debris removed from site, not left in bags by your bins

• A note of anything we find — splits, sagging brackets, failed joints, standing water, damaged outlets

What this service does not include

This is a clearance service. It does not include the removal, cleaning or refitting of gutter guards, leaf guards, mesh or brush systems. Those have to come out before a gutter can be cleared properly, they are slow and awkward to remove from height, and they are priced separately. If your gutters have a guard system fitted, book a site survey below and we will quote for the whole job rather than turn up and find we cannot do it.

It does not include gutter repair, re-sealing, re-bracketing, lining or replacement. If we find a defect we will tell you and photograph it; putting it right is separate work.

Working height

The online price covers guttering to 40ft, which on most commercial buildings is three storeys. Above that, or where access is restricted, select the survey option and we will price it properly after seeing it.

The site survey

A survey is a chargeable visit, not a sales call. We come out, measure the runs, look at the gutter profile and the access, identify what plant is needed if any, and produce a written quotation with a risk assessment and method statement for the work. You keep the documentation whether or not you use us.

How often

Twice a year on a building with trees near it, once a year on an open site. Autumn is the one that matters. Set a schedule and pay less — annual and six-monthly plans save against the one-off price, and we come without being chased.
